On the surface, early enrollment programs (for example Early College, Middle College, PSEO, dual enrollment, etc.) seem like a really good idea. You can take classes that count for both high school and college and come at little to no expense. It's slightly different with Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses, as they are designed to be college preparatory and involve passing an exam to earn college credit.

That said, many early enrollment credits will transfer but WILL NOT meet program, degree, or college requirements. It is a major frustration for parents, students, and academic advisors when college rolls around. Parents and students are left exasperated as to why the credits will not apply, and advisors are left with not having satisfactory reasons why.
